Man Makes His Plans...

Well, I'd love to be able to report back to you about the wonderfully relaxing time we had in Roatan...but, in case you haven't seen the weather reports our plans were changed thanks to Tropical Storm/Hurricane Richard.

We arrived Wednesday night and got to fall asleep to the sound of the surf.  I haven't slept that soundly in Honduras since we moved here.  Thursday morning Brian went to his first dive session while I slept in and had a late breakfast.  We spent some time laying on the beach and then early evening took a short walk to the Vintage Pearl restaurant.  It is a cozy little place, they have you remove your shoes when you come in, and we had a wonderful dinner to celebrate our 10th anniversary.

Friday morning was cloudy, drizzly, and windy.  Brian set out for his next dive session but had to take a bus to the other side of the island for calmer water.  I made my way to the office to ask some questions and, having not turned a TV on for several days by then, was a bit surprised when the desk clerk told me there was a Tropical Storm coming and we would need to leave the island by Saturday morning or we would get stranded.

Sure enough, I turned on the weather channel back in the room and there was Richard, heading straight for the Bay Islands.  So we packed our things and were on the bus heading toward the ferry by 6 am the next morning.  A very long 14 hours later we stumbled through the front door back home, and I'd be lying if I said we weren't disappointed.  We learned that the entire island of Roatan had shut down Saturday afternoon, including the ferry and the airport, and there was no electricity on the island.

But all things work for the good of them that love the Lord...because we had to come back early we were able to attend the baptism service in El Hatillo for 6 of the Micah guys.  Our trip had already been planned and paid for when the baptism service was scheduled so, had we stayed in Roatan, we were going to miss it.  Instead, we got to see Joel, Yeison, Miguel Fugon, Miguelito, Axelito, and Nelson all make a public declaration to give their lives to Christ by stepping into the waters of baptism.  It was truly a blessing to be a part of the celebration there, and then later during Sunday worship at Micah.

Roatan will be there another day, but there won't be too many times we will be able to be a part of such a joyous day for The Micah Project.

I do feel bad that your hopes and expectations about Roatan were not met, but I'm rather jealous that you were able to be at the baptisms. :)

Well. Baptisms of fire I believe are coming your way as they for all us. Hurricanes. Tarantulas. What's next? With Jesus it will be okay, whatever it is. Thanks for the updates.

So good to hear of the day to day of your life in Honduras! Tarantulas--no! Roatan--Yes! But in it all, you are telling a story of God working His will and ways for a Greater Glory. . .even when we don't see it so clearly at times! Reminds me of Isaiah 55:9!
Sure love you folks! Sitting in the front row for 6 baptisms has to be seating usually reserved for Angels or Saints! What a privilege! Sure am enriched to follow Him by your lives! Love, Pastor Steve
